CHAMPVA Phone Numbers, Claims Address, and Payer ID

The main CHAMPVA phone number is 800-733-8387, Monday through Friday, 8:05 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Eastern. Below are the rest of the numbers and addresses families and provider offices actually need, each one taken from a current VA page and linked in the sources at the bottom. Contacts change, so if a number below stops working, the VA pages in the sources are the place to check.

If you are an office manager or biller reading this because a patient handed you a CHAMPVA card, here is everything you need. CHAMPVA has no network and no enrollment. If you accept Medicare assignment, you can bill CHAMPVA today.

CHAMPVA pays at rates tied to Medicare, and when it is secondary to other insurance it pays 100 percent of the allowable, which means your office typically collects more than it would from the primary alone. There is no network to join, no credentialing, and no contract.

If you are looking this up because a CHAMPVA patient just called

The VA does not publish a directory of providers who accept CHAMPVA, so families cold-call practice after practice trying to find one. That is the entire reason this site exists.

The billing detail lives on its own page now: payer IDs, the allowable, timely filing, preauthorization, and what you may not bill the patient are all in our guide to billing CHAMPVA.

If your practice bills CHAMPVA, families searching your city can find you here. Claim your listing to add your website, a description in your own words, and an accepting-new-patients flag, or just tell us you accept it and we will add the confirmation free.

Where to mail a paper claim

In most cases the provider files the claim. When you file yourself, use VA Form 10-7959A and attach an itemized bill and proof of payment. The VA's claim-filing instructions for beneficiaries give this address:

VHA Office of Integrated Veteran Care, CHAMPVA Claims
PO Box 500
Spring City, PA 19475

The VA's provider page, updated June 30, 2026, gives a different mailbox for claims: VHA Office of Integrated Veteran Care, CHAMPVA Claims, PO Box 30750, Tampa, FL 33630-3750. Both appear on current VA pages. Provider offices should file electronically with payer ID 84146 and skip the question entirely. Families mailing a claim can use the Spring City address from the beneficiary instructions, or confirm with 800-733-8387 first.

Deadlines and timing: you must file within one year of the date of care, or within one year of leaving the hospital for an inpatient stay. The VA says processing takes about 90 days.

Eligibility, applications, and general mail

  • Applications and eligibility questions: VHA Office of Integrated Veteran Care, CHAMPVA Eligibility, PO Box 137, Spring City, PA 19475. Apply with VA Form 10-10d, plus Form 10-7959c if anyone in the family has other insurance. Our eligibility guide walks through who qualifies.
  • General correspondence: CHAMPVA, PO Box 500, Spring City, PA 19475.
  • Meds by Mail: PO Box 331178, Murfreesboro, TN 37133. Details in the Meds by Mail guide.

Where to send an appeal

An appeal is not the same as a claim, and sending it to the claims mailbox can cost you time you do not have. The deadline is one year from the date of the decision, so confirm the address before you mail rather than after.

Federal regulation says a reconsideration request goes to VA in writing and must state why you believe the decision is wrong, but it does not name a mailing address, and the right one depends on what was decided. Call 800-733-8387 and ask for the current address for a reconsideration of your specific decision, then send it there with a copy of the statement attached. Our guide to CHAMPVA denials walks through the deadlines and what the letter has to contain.

Fax numbers

The VA's CHAMPVA pages mention fax as an option for preauthorization and correspondence, but the current pages do not publish a general CHAMPVA fax number. Call 800-733-8387 or the preauthorization line and ask for the fax number for your specific request, so your paperwork lands in the right queue.

Before you call about a provider

Most calls to CHAMPVA are about one question: which doctors take it. CHAMPVA has no provider network and the VA does not publish a directory, which is why this site exists. Search verified local providers by state and city, then use the 20-second phone script to confirm with the office. If an office is unsure, they can verify your eligibility on the 24-hour line above in one call.
