About this site

The problem

More than 703,000 spouses, survivors, and children of severely disabled veterans carry CHAMPVA coverage, and the VA does not publish a provider directory for them. Families are told to "search for Medicare providers" and left to make cold calls. That is a solvable problem.

What we built

ChampvaDoctors.com indexes 3,387,942 providers from the CMS Doctors and Clinicians national registry, the U.S. government's public dataset of clinicians enrolled in Medicare. We list providers who accept Medicare assignment, because they can bill CHAMPVA and Medicare hospitals are required to accept it. On top of the directory, we publish plain-English guides to the program's rules, costs, and paperwork.

Data and honesty

  • Source: CMS Doctors and Clinicians national downloadable dataset. Last refreshed 2026-07-13. Refreshed with every site update.
  • The limits: accepting Medicare makes a provider a strong CHAMPVA candidate, not a guarantee. Each office decides for itself, which is why we teach the confirmation call and run the Verified program.
  • Advertising: featured placements are paid and always labeled. The Verified badge cannot be bought.
  • Independence: this is a private site, not affiliated with or endorsed by the Department of Veterans Affairs or any government agency.
